Bobe Named Danville Economic Development Director

City Manager Ken Larking announced today the selection of Corrie Teague Bobe as the director of economic development for the City of Danville.

Bobe has served as interim director since the departure of Telly Tucker, who left in January to take a similar position in Arlington County.

“Corrie has done an excellent job leading the department for the past several months,” Larking said. “She has worked tirelessly on behalf of our community for nearly 11 years, and I am thrilled that she will be directing our economic development effort for, hopefully, many years to come.”

Larking said Bobe was selected following a highly competitive national search.

Mayor Alonzo Jones applauded Bobe’s selection, saying, “The City Council has worked with Corrie for a number of years, and we have great confidence in her. Without a doubt, Corrie is the right person to lead our incredible economic development team and maintain the spirit of collaboration in our region.”

Neal Morris, chairman of the Industrial Development Authority of Danville, agreed.

“The city manager made an excellent choice,” Morris said. “Corrie has a full understanding of all aspects of economic development and has continued working with potential companies while serving as interim director. I feel confident she will continue to work diligently to ensure Danville remains competitive in its efforts to bring new companies to the area, increasing jobs, good pay and improving the quality of life for our citizens.”

Bobe will lead the department’s business attraction, retention, and River District revitalization efforts with a staff of four full-time employees and one economic development consultant.

Bobe said regional leaders have invested in assets that have made Danville and Pittsylvania County a place where businesses can thrive, and residents can enjoy a great quality of life.

“This investment has sparked such momentum and energy throughout Southern Virginia, and we are seeing this region transform as a result,” Bobe said. “It has been such an honor to play a part in advancing these economic development efforts since joining the office in 2009. I would like to thank the city manager for this opportunity to continue to serve my community in this enhanced role.”

Bobe joined the City as a marketing and research manager in October of 2009. She was named a project manager in July of 2012 and promoted to assistant director of economic development in January of 2015.

Before that, she worked as a senior account executive for a marketing firm in San Francisco and as an account operations specialist for Infinity Global in Danville. She is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and has a degree in marketing management.

The Danville Office of Economic Development recruits and retains businesses for the Danville area. The office provides information on available sites and buildings, incentives, and other financial resources and offers a website designed for the business community, discoverdanville.com.
